What Makes Spring Cleaning Different From Regular Cleaning

Weekly or biweekly cleaning covers the surfaces you see and touch every day. Spring cleaning is about everything that builds up slowly in the background — behind furniture, inside appliances, up high, and anywhere dust and grime accumulate over months without anyone noticing day to day.

Kitchen

  • [ ] Clean inside the oven, microwave, and refrigerator
  • [ ] Pull out the stove and refrigerator to clean behind and underneath
  • [ ] Wipe down cabinet fronts and the inside of frequently-used cabinets
  • [ ] Clean the range hood and replace or clean the filter
  • [ ] Descale the coffee maker and clean out the dishwasher filter
  • [ ] Wash or replace dish towels, sponges, and the dish rack

Bathrooms

  • [ ] Deep clean grout lines in showers and tile floors
  • [ ] Clean inside cabinets and under the sink, discarding expired products
  • [ ] Descale showerheads and faucets
  • [ ] Wash or replace shower curtains and liners
  • [ ] Clean exhaust fans (dust buildup here is extremely common and rarely addressed)

Bedrooms

  • [ ] Flip or rotate mattresses if applicable, and vacuum them
  • [ ] Wash pillows, mattress protectors, and duvet covers (not just sheets)
  • [ ] Clean under the bed and behind nightstands/dressers
  • [ ] Sort through and donate/discard clothes you no longer wear

Living Areas

  • [ ] Vacuum and flip couch cushions; clean underneath them
  • [ ] Dust and clean baseboards throughout
  • [ ] Wash curtains or dust blinds thoroughly
  • [ ] Clean inside bookshelves and entertainment units, not just the surfaces

Whole-Home Items

  • [ ] Clean all light fixtures and ceiling fans
  • [ ] Wash interior (and exterior, if accessible) windows
  • [ ] Vacuum or clean air vents and replace HVAC filters
  • [ ] Wipe down all light switches, doorknobs, and handles
  • [ ] Deep clean or professionally clean carpets and area rugs

A Realistic Timeline

Trying to do this entire list in one day is exhausting and usually incomplete. Spreading it across a few weekends — one zone at a time (kitchen one weekend, bathrooms the next, bedrooms after that) — gets the whole list done without burning out halfway through.

When It's Worth Hiring Out

A true spring deep clean covers a lot of the same ground as a professional deep clean service — baseboards, inside appliances, grout, behind furniture. Many people use spring as the one time of year they bring in professional help specifically for this list, even if they don't use recurring service otherwise.

Bottom Line

Spring cleaning is really just catching up on everything regular cleaning doesn't reach — tackled room by room, it's manageable; all at once, it's a lot. Get a free price estimate if you'd rather hand the deep-clean portion off this year.
